Categories: , , ,
Number of Pages: 23

Description

These Earth Day themed, no prep, short passages are excellent for second and third graders to practice close reading! Your students will be able to practice with 10 fiction passages and 10 nonfiction passages. The passages are engaging and will motivate students to read. Each passage has 3-4 text-based questions and an open response, text dependent question!

In the nonfiction passages the students will read about “going green” and ways to help our Earth! In the fictional passages, your students read about Miss Berg's students. They've been tasked to come up with different ways and ideas to help the earth. Each passage introduces a new student and his/her idea to help the earth.

Many comprehension skills are covered:

✔ Noting Details

✔ Inferencing

✔ Vocabulary Comprehension

✔ Cause and Effect

✔ Open-Ended Questions

✔ On-the-Surface Questions

Use these passages for close reading, guided reading, shared reading, assessments, homework or centers. Students can work with partners or independently.

I've also included a cover page if you'd like to staple them and make a packet out of them! Students can work at their own pace in completing the reading.

The passages are excellent for second graders but can also be used for first grade students that are ready for rigorous text.
